Join Father FELIX LEKHAMA on an exciting Pilgrimage to Europe. The pilgrimage will start in Portugal, more specifically Fatima. You will then travel by road to Loudres in France, passing through Santiago de Compostella in Spain. A short flight will then take to the centre of the Catholic faith, The Vatican / Rome. After a visit to the picturesque hilltop town of Assisi to see the Basilica of St. Francis you head back to Rome for your flight back to South Africa.

Day 1: JOHANNESBURG SUN, 09 JUL 2023
Meet at O. R. Tambo International Airport at the check-in counter for your flight to Lisbon. Please ensure that you arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure time.

Day 2: LISBON, SANTAREM, FATIMA MON, 10 JUL 2023
Arrive in Lisbon, transfer to Fatima and stop en route in Santarem, discover the church of the Holy Miracle related to what happened in Santarem in the XIV century. Check in to your accommodation upon arrival.

Day 3: FATIMA. VALINHOS, ALJUSTREL TUE, 11 JUL 2023
After breakfast, celebrate mass and meet the guide and transfer by coach to visit to Valinhos and Aljustrel, to see the houses of the three shepherds. Return to Fatima and visit the Shrine. In the afternoon, visit the permanent exhibition Light and Peace. Return to your accommodation.

Day 4: FATIMA. SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA WED, 12 JUL 2023
After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and transfer to Santiago de Compostela. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided visit of Santiago with the cathedral where you can see the remains of St. James, housed within a silver crypt. A statue of St. James the Apostle sits high above the main altar and the enormous censor, known as the “botafumeiro.”

Day 5: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, LEON, BURGOS THU, 13 JUL 2023
After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and transfer to Burgos, with stop on the way in or around the Leon area for lunch. Arrive in Burgos and check in to your accommodation.

Day 6: BURGOS, LOURDES FRI, 14 JUL 2023
After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and transfer to Lourdes. Stop en route for lunch. Arrive in Lourdes and check in to your accommodation. Enjoy some time at leisure before returning to your accommodation for dinner.

Day 7: LOURDES SAT, 15 JUL 2023
After breakfast, In the morning, enjoy a guided tour of Lourdes you are going to see the places where Bernadette use to stay, the Cachot where she was living during the time of the apparitions, Her Birthhouse and the Hospice where she retired after the apparitions and where she received her first holy communion. End the tour on the shrine and see the underground basilica and the rosary basilica.
Time at leisure for private devotion: possible private Mass.
After dinner, possible participation to the candle light procession on the shrines’ esplanade.

Day 8: LOURDES SUN, 16 JUL 2023
After breakfast, celebrate private mass in a chapel of the shrine or concelebrated Mass at the Grotto. Enjoy the day at leisure for private devotion, with opportunity to visit the baths and take part to the Way of the Cross.

Day 9: LOURDES, ROME, BASILICAS MON, 17 JUL 2023
After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and transfer to the airport in Pau for your flight to Rome. Arrive in Rome, meet your local assistant and transfer for a guided visit and panoramic tour of ancient Rome with the Colosseum and stop at St. John Lateran, the seat of the papal throne, the oldest and the first in the established order of the papal basilicas. Continue to St. Mary Major, the largest church in Rome dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
At the end of the tour visit St. Paul Basilica, situated on the road that led to Ostia and built over the burial place of Paul the Apostle. Check into your accommodation.

Day 10: VATICAN, ASSISI TUE, 18 JUL 2023
In early morning, transfer to St. Peter’s Basilica for private Mass. Thereafter meet the guide and visit the Basilica and square. Transfer then to Assisi. In the afternoon, meet the guide in Assisi and visit the tomb of St. Francis in the Basilica dedicated to the saint. Explore the quaint hilltop birthplace of St. Francis that still retains some of the atmosphere of the early 1200s, the period when the saint began his ministry. Contained within the huge 13th-century Basilica are many of the saint’s possessions and a series of frescoes by Giotto depicting his life. After a look at the ancient Roman temple, we go to the Basilica of St. Clare to see the saint’s incorrupt body. The foundress of the Order of Poor Clares followed the teachings of St. Francis by living a life of poverty and humility.

After breakfast, check out of your accommodation and celebrate Mass in The Basilica of St Maria Degli Angeli. Transfer to the airport in the afternoon and board your flight to Johannesburg.
